Watched the movie for Ileana and I've walked out of the theaters with a bad headache. Ileana looked pretty but her role didn't allow her to offer much. Varun = Govinda+Salman (literally), over the top and over energetic; the boy needs to learn to act in a more subtle manner. Pretty Nargis needs to polish her acting skills because clearly she acted really bad in a good role. Movie overall was ok but it is a strictly one time watch only.
Here is the review for the movie Main Tera Hero. Watch out this space for more updates!

Main Tera Hero is meant as a showcase for the many talents of Dhawan Jr, who can dance, fight and contort his face and body with remarkable flexibility. A scene in which he evades Saurabh Shukla while all along trailing right behind him is vintage Govinda. Meanwhile his lack of inhibitions – both when it comes to losing his shirt repeatedly and performing outlandish gags – is evocative of a younger Salman Khan. Those actors did some of their best comic work with David Dhawan, and Varun too is easily the biggest strength of this film. Nargis Fakhri, cleverly used, inspires a few laughs, but Ileana D’cruz is purely ornamental. I’m going with two out of five for Main Tera Hero. Watch it if you must for its catchy songs, a few good laughs, and a leading man who really tries.

The film does have some hilarious scenes, like Seenu's communication with God or when Kher's sentences end in an echo. Ironically, while the script and the film are refreshingly unpretentious, it's the simplicity that gets to you after a point. The flashy sets, the eardrum-challenging music and the sexy-but-intolerably dumb women might have worked two decades ago but now they just add to the overall cacophony. A timepass of a movie, it can be watched once. Only wish Dhawan had taken some risks rather than sticking to the age-old formula that worked for him eons ago.

Mostly, Main Tera Hero, is loud and tiring. The film is undemanding but also, deflating. You laugh sporadically but you leave the theater exhausted, instead of energized. At the end of the film, the gangster’s sidekick exclaims: Jaise ghar ki chhatt ko roof kehte hain, jaise saboot ko English mein proof kehte hain, vaise har language main aap jaison ko bewaqoof kehte hain. Bewakoof aptly describes us viewers. I’m going with two stars.

Varun meshes Govinda, Michael Jackson and his own madness well. He gets better in a stronger second half, bolstered by gorgeous Nargis pouting, "Thenk you, Dadduz!" and the banter between Kher and snarling subordinate Bally (Shukla). Arunodaya surprises - the actor's evolved, pulling off threats and blushes to comic effect. Those seeking movies with meaning, note - Main Tera Hero is a pav bhaji picture, quick, spicy, hot. It has the depth of a comic strip but it also has its neon-shaded fun. For those who want a light laugh, here's your boy.

I did manage to find a few laughs in ‘Main Tera Hero’, David Dhawan’s showcase created solely for his son Varun, but it was hard work. Because this is David precariously close to making my eyes glaze over, with long stretches of flatness, and forced laughter. The film may be a Telugu remake, but the template is very Dhawan, with the usual mix of buffoons and goons and mistaken identities playing ‘I spy’ in a Bangkok hotel masquerading as a home.

On the whole, MAIN TERA HERO is a wild, wacky, madcap entertainer that has the unmistakable stamp of the master of entertainers -- David Dhawan. An over the top plot, humor quotient and performances are three aces the film stands on. The film should work well with admirers of typical Bollywood masalathons, also because Varun Dhawan pulls off the act with flamboyance and bowls you over with an uproarious act in this zany entertainer. Go, have fun and laugh out loud!

Main Tera Hero, for all its excesses, is held together by its sustained comic energy. The sillier it turns, the better it gets. The film has enough laugh-out-loud situations for the audience not to be overly put off by the screenplay’s obvious rough edges. Give Main Tera Hero a shot. Not quite vintage David Dhawan, but it comes pretty close.
Rating:3.5/5 Review By:Paloma Sharma Site:Rediff
Main Tera Hero rests almost solely on the bases of strong performances extracted by a tough taskmaster, director David Dhawan -- who makes a surprisingly clean film for the most part but doesn't seem to have been able to resist the temptation to indulge in a few less-than-tasteful jokes post-interval. The second half is primarily where the problem lies. The script dwindles slightly. Too many characters with too many subplots emerge, messing things up for a bit.
Main Tera Hero succeeds where films like R... Rajkumar, Chennai Express and Phata Poster Nikla Hero failed. Not exactly suitable for family audiences, Main Tera Hero is a total seeti-maar, paisa vasool film and refreshingly unpretentious.

If this film was made to establish Varun Dhawan as a comedy actor who can do something different then they have achieved what they wanted. Because he does put a great show together but there is absolutely nothing else that deserves any compliments. Ileana D'curz doesn't fit the role well however Nargis Fakri is not bad, she fits well in this masala comedy and doesn't disappoint. Music by Salman Khan's favourite music director duo Sajid -Wajid is quite good and that keeps the pace going. I wouldn't recommend that you spend money on multiplex tickets for Main Tera Hero, even if you like mindless comedies this could be a decent DVD watch.

If anything, ‘Main Tera Hero’ requires a certain amount of willpower to watch the entire film even when you know that freedom and sanity is just a door away. Don’t step in. Not if you have a choice.
